Hi all,
I don't often offer my ramblings but here goes.
Station consists of 1 Radio - FT1K MKV Field fitted with inrads and
roofing filter - New Acom 1000 - Spiderbeam @ 60ft - Nested dipoles for
40/80 @ 60ft - Home made HF2V Copy - Inverted L for 160m 60' V 60' H -
500ft Beverage to the NW.
I so wish the contest catered for a true multi single like our field
day. They do M2 SO2R etc so my feeling is MS should be made to cater for
those who do not have the resources of the budget to set up a "Dual"
station.
The whole team of two spent all day Friday erecting the inverted L for
top band, running out radials and putting out the beverage.
Test were under way by mid afternoon to find we had RF feedback to the
PC used for logging (N1MM) and DVK. We grounded the case and it seemed
to sure the problem. At this stage all seemed OK and we went for a rest.
Midnight we wandered back to the shack and run a few more tests before
getting started. First QSO and already a problem, the ESM on N1MM didn't
want to play ball ad was sendind the QRZ and the CQ message all at once.
EMS switched off and back to F button pressing.
The night seemed to go OK with some nice runs but the lack of big
antenna's was showing.
The next problem arose when we tried to get onto 20m, we couldn't run
more than 100w without RF feedback problems again but only when beaming
between 100 and 200 degrees, so we had to S&P for a while trying to sort
out the problems but we just couldn't find it, lost about 30 minutes
here. I decided to get my trust old MFJ voice caller and try it, this
worked a treat but now even more buttons to push and confusion for the
tiredness periods.
>From here on in we had no more problems and the new ACOM 1000 work out a
treat at 400w, the TRI a god send. Now this is the only thing we have
changed over the last year of contesting so could it be the amp has a
problem I wonder ... ?
Overall we had fun and some cracking runs on 15m, at one point I saw the
last 10 rate up at 400/hr but do feel deflated by not having a proper
section for us.
Nice to see 10m open!
LF bands seemed poor.
An a thought for the bandspace used, If all those splatter machines in
europe sorted out there staions I'm sure we could all fit in the
allocated SSB section, but then I suppose we may get to close to them!
Anyway here we are:-
