Thanks Clive, for your interesting comments.
I’m fairly new to contesting, find the CCs good practice,
when they don’t coincide with Club Meetings! I need to do a contest at least
once a month to keep ‘my ear in’, longer than that and I start to ‘loose it’.
This was my first ROPOCO, and I enjoyed it (sorry, to those
who showed me great forbearance, I did ‘get it’ - in the end!) and no, it was
not me, I listen to my outgoing P-Cs!
Personally, I would not like to loose ROPOCO 1. When it
works, it works well as a test of operating skill (unlike other contests,
nearly all ops slowed their cw for the ROPOCO exchange - hi). But I agree that the ROLOCO is an excellent
idea and it could replace the second ROPOCO 2, and perhaps be more frequent?
I found this ROPOCO much more civilised, than the AFS
contest, where the general standard of operating is good, interspersed with
demonstrations of appalling bad manners.
As a newcomer to contesting, one soon learns that ‘running’
is essential to a good score, but it took me quite a long time to ‘psyc myself
up’ to ‘running’.
Unfortunately, it seems there is a distinct lack of
sportsmanship (combined with big elbows) on the part of those stations that run
VERY QRO stations! In spite of their being, otherwise, good operators.
IF the hfcc is going to do anything………..I would like to see
them enforce 100W for all contests – as far as that is possible, if only to
level the playing field. 1.5kW (+) makes
for a very unfair contest.
Question: What is going to happen to contesting generally, when
‘CW Skimmer’ becomes popular?
Thanks to all, es 73 de Martin, GW3PRL. Isle of Anglesey
