[UK-CONTEST] 144 AFS

I think the problem with lack of activity is that, unlike 80m AFS where
someone can quickly throw up a makeshift wire antenna to get on, this is
just not feasable on 144. Either you are set up for that band on a permanent
basis or you are not. Also the whole concept of "local" clubs is really
being taken over, at least for "sport" radio, by contest groups who are
geographically widespread. De Montfort University ARS is a good example.
We are contenders in 80MCC and in 80M Sprint because we are all set up at
home to do so. We also compete in 144AC on the same basis. But the "50
mile" rule really cuts us out for 144 AFS. In my view if the 50 mile rule
was removed there would be much greater interest. The Club could still be
required to be affiliated. Unlike (the other) Ray, I don't feel strongly
about the scoring rules although the inclusion of an M2 would also encourage
participation.

Anyway I will be active from IO91HA for as long as there are stations to
work. CUL.
