To all VHF contesters
It is a funny old world, spend all year from the previous VHF field day
and learn the lessons, put in place several improvements to improve your
score and start the countdown to the July weekend.
Now I have set the scene, arrive at the contest site with all your gear
after driving through the rain and what rain and wind! Put up two masts,
one with the 70cms antenna and the other with a pair on two and get
completely soaked. Go home and have a change in clothing and return to
the contest site and find your fellow club members looking really
worried, the two mtr mast looks as it has moved and everybody is feeling
nervous and huddled together. You notice the wind is stronger, yet the
rain intensity has increased and you sense it is not safe any more, so
it is time to play safe with both masts down and yet again get soaked
and drive home for your second change of clothes and guess what really
rubs it in, you turn on the television set and Wimbledon is on with
bright sunshine and little wind!
So to all you VHF contesters out there, I am sorry that we (G4ADV/P
Newquay Radio Club) was unable to participate this year, I have never
seen rain and wind like it for Cornwall, that was extreme weather. Now
we did today (Sunday) able to work one Scottish station on 70cms, from a
friends house using some of the gear. So from us all at G4ADV, we are
sorry we never came on and hope the weather gods will be kind to us next
time.

PS. what really winds me up, I did several swaps of shifts so I could
have the 5th and 6th off, oh well.
