"Anyone can buy a personalised registration (even those who don't own a
vehicle) but if they don't get it assigned to a vehicle it lapses after a
certain length of time."

But:

1) what you get depends on how much you can afford to pay.
2) it can be held indefinitely on a "Retention Certificate" @ £25/yr.
3) it cannot be used to misrepresent the vehicle to which it is assigned.

So should:

1) vanity calls be "For Sale" with the best at the highest prices?
2) they lapse or should an annual retention fee be required?
3) they be required to CLEARLY indicate the holders status?

David

Can we draw a parallel with personalised car registrations in that a short
call is easier to identify than a longer one? Is there a traffic management

reason for me to have GWD 1 on my car? It is non-discriminatory in that all

licence holders who are qualified to an appropriate level will have the
opportunity to apply for a callsign. Anyone can buy a personalised
registration (even
those who don't own a vehicle) but if they don't get it assigned to a
vehicle it lapses after a certain length of time. If they don't possess a
licence
to drive the vehicle they will not be able to use it unless they are
driven
by a member of their family, a friend or employee or drive the vehicle on
their own land! As we are talking about 1 X 1, 2 X 1, (contest calls) 1 X 2
or 2
X 2 (currently issued) they are already in accord with international
obligations.

YES MINISTER.....

The Olympics callsigns is quite separate and should be shelved until this
is
sorted. It must have been going the rounds for at least 15 years.

And as for a unified power level with Europe lets go for it! This OM3500
made in OM looks about the right sort of power level.

Do we need a question in the House?
