In a word why? Apart from keeping a call of a SK family member alive or the
club use of a SK member e.g. G5UM I can't think of any justification for
changing or re-activating a callsign at least until all of the available
callsigns have been used up, for me it would be the same as changing my
name. I have the impression that some people like to have a call that
pre-dates their 'real' call to make it appear that they've held a licence
for much longer than they actually have, perhaps it's all just a bit of an
ego trip?
The use a two or three letter call to gain a possible advantage during a
contest should be banned or for a 'special event'.
