For anyone that's interested in history and perhaps one for the pub quiz.

Around 1912 / 1913 G & M calls were issued as "General" calls with M usually
associated with the Marconi Company.

1919 saw the issuing of MZX to Marconi in Chelmsford.

There really is nothing new!

Sorry I have not been following this thread too closely cos of IOTA
preparations, etc.

GZ and MZ *are* valid regional locators - specifically
for SCCs used in Shetland - this arrangement has been in place since 2000
(GZ7V) but has not been used very often.
