[UK-CONTEST] Wire antennas slung over trees

A good tip I was once given by someone much wiser than I:
When throwing bits of string over trees in the vicinity of houses, greenhouses, etc. use an orange as the weight.
If it all goes horribly wrong, you usually just get a nasty sticky mess on the window, instead of a smashed pane and lots of shouting... The same applies if it hits a passing small boy on the head, for example.
Best to have several oranges, though!

Seen some good advice on the reflector about launching lines over trees.

I personally haven't had much luck with catapults - I got a fishing bait
type one some while ago; wasn't very good. I used a fishing reel in it's
free mode; mounted on a stick facing the tree. Maybe my technique was wrong
?

I ended up attaching the fishing reel to a piece of waste pipe tube; and
casting it over a tree. I could get to around 50 ft like this with the usual
caveats.

One piece of advice not seen yet - I got some dayglo orange paint, and
dipped the weights in this. That way, it is easier to pick the weight out
when it is dangling in thin air !!!
