All competitive activities, interests and hobbies apply
limits on technology, either because the technology is
deemed to be inappropriate or because it would change
the nature of the activity concerned.

That's why there's no 4-wheel drive in Formula 1, no
dictionaries in spelling contests, no engines in yacht
races, no metal cricket bats, no springs in running
shoes, and no computers in Scrabble.

Amateur radio (contesting) is no exception - it's a
legacy hobby and is not dependent on new technology
for its continued existence and enjoyment.
