Hi Tony, all...
You are not alone ... every year the latest people to try operating
Club Calls in November ask this question on the list, either just
before or just after the event :) There is no perfect solution for
this particular event ... AFAIK ... so different people use various
loggers and approaches and do the best they can.
We (GX0RGH) also use SD ... you can use any template that gives you
free format fields to type in, even if too short. We used the General
option within the AFS template ... some editing is required afterwards
whatever way you go. But at least you get the other facilities of the
logger such as real time dupe checking etc. I actually don't mind
this extra work ... I think the uniqueness of the Club Calls event is
part of its attraction, at least for a small group like Harwich. We
have won the club station section 2 years (2000 and 2002) and well
placed in other years. The oddness including the short duration,
power limits, etc helps level it for us. Long may it continue even if
there is more post-contest work to submit the online entry. We
actually involve a number of club members here during the contest who
scribble/type various parts of the exchange in scripted Excel sheets
and then integrate with what the operator is doing... the process has
been improved over the years and this event brings a real sense of
teamwork to contesting again.
The final log format you are aiming to submit is available as an
example on the HFCC website at http://www.vhfcc.org/hfcc/formats/Clubcall.txt
The other email debate that happens every year is about the accuracy
of the names recorded per club! Or maybe that won't happen this
year. i suspect looking through the list archives will allow anyone
who wants to reminisce to do so!
Great that you took part Tony and hope to hear you next year as well.
