Dave:
I understand your say but I would like to have my opinion said too so we can share comments etc.
VHF bands from 6m and higher are very unpredictable. Activity from UK is pretty low overall compared to EU and therefore beacons
Are sometimes only way of monitoring conditions. GB3VHF was / is unique in having both A1 and JT6 mode with auto-switching after 60seconds.
I know that guys from well over 700km range were listening to weak signals EME like and that GB3VHF was real beacon devoted to promote idea of swinging
EU beams toward UK.
Not many on both sides do have a time to listen for activity, but on most occasions if DX Cluster spot comes from far DL or OK,OE that GB3VHF is audible, UK guys just simply go on and joins the fun and that's the idea of having it on.

Tim:
I agree that costs are high and that these times are difficult with everyone trying to save / make as much as possible.
It might be option, if RSG's decision is final, thatwe could support beacon or try to find different location.
(In OK, we had a little hut in jn99bo and we had a beacon there all the time apart from contests or activity periods so either club member or beacon was on the air. May be that would be way to go forward too? )

Anyway, it would be sad to just keep dropping the activity levels and GB3VHF participate in keeping them at least as they are for sure.

73 and have a good day.

Jiri

Have a lok at the RSGB web site under news, and www.g0afh.com/gb3vhf, the costs involved are £2000 pa, I'm
personally disgusted, it just shows what the RSGB thinks of VHF (well DX modes anyway). It appears that the
decision was taken without the knowledge of the board!, if I took a major decision like this without consultation
with my directors I'd be out on my ear.
