We have the controversy over mobile phone masts to thank for some of the
difficulties (perceived or not) in obtaining planning permission.
I don't think that there is anything in planning law that permits erection
of TV aerials without permission however I see many big TV arrays on tall
masts springing up all over the place thanks to the wonders of digital TV.
These installations apparently are never questioned as long as they're not
in a conservation area.
If therefore you can't get planning permission for a beam how about a
multi-band vertical like a 12 or 14AVQ (assuming you can still get one)
mounted as high as possible and on the top of it mount a dummy TV aerial, it
won't be as good as a big beam at 60 ft but will still work the DX, planning
permission? It's just a TV aerial!
