Many thanks to all those who provided excellent help and guidance on this topic, on and off reflector.  Looks as though a formal application for ZA is still needed, despite the indication on my BR68, which probably means I'm out of time for this trip.  Useful to have the formal picture though.  ZA is fast becoming a tourist destination, so we may hear more.
