[UK-CONTEST] TOWER AUTOBRAKE WINCH

Most popular solution was WD-40. I'd been hesitant about that, in view of the stern warning in the manual about lubricants on the pads.

Anyway, problem now solved. A couple of short squirts of WD-40 and a bit of working the handle, and the resistance eased (but did not disappear). Tower came down much more easily.

Thanks to all who commented.

  Subject: TOWER AUTOBRAKE WINCH

Slightly OT, but I'm looking for advice.

One of the towers here has the heavy duty autobrake manual winches. One of these has developed a problem in that the friction discs are now almost fully seized up, and it is a heck of a job to wind the tower down. Can anyone advise on how to free these, short of a full dismantle/replace job ? The winch is only four years old.

  Sorry for the bandwidth
