This was not intended to be a full-on serious entry in SSB Field Day,
and we had some problems with the tower a few days before the contest,
the same one that was bent by Farmer Giles mid-way through last year's
event. However, it became clear a few hours into the contest that we
were doing pretty well, at least on QSO numbers. That's when I started
regretting not having organised a cluster connection, and the lack of
mults may have cost us dearly.

We gave a chance to a couple of the less experienced club members to
make some QSOs, always accompanied by one of the more seasoned
operators, and they were also able to spend time hunting for mults on
the second RX. Both tents were put up in the intervals between rain
showers, and we had heavy rain on and off right through to Sunday
morning. On the up-side, it's handy operating from a field right next to
a pub, though we cut it a bit fine at the start only leaving the bar at
ten minutes to two, with the DVK still to be set up!

QSO rates took a dive overnight and rates overall were much slower on
Sunday but we were pleased with the final tally which edged past 1500,
before dups.

We also put on M8C in the 2m Trophy, but conditions were not good and
activity was low.

Here's the summary:
