Well I first joined at 14. I know you couldn't get a licence til you reached
14. Maybe I was wrong.

Anyway in 1979 I was A 42478, which turned into  BRS42478.

RadCom at the time was physically smaller, I used to wait eagerly every
month for it to arrive, with my parents frequently hiding it until homework
had been done.....my father used to take the VR150 (I think) Valve out of my
AR88LF until the said homework was complete....I also had a MM114-28MHz
converter to listen to the locals on. Used to slope detect FM on AM. Happy
days !

My membership lapsed between 1985 and 1996, as career and beer and all that
follows was more interesting.....then I settled down !

No, I joined the RSGB as an SWL at the age of  12 or 13 as an Associate
member (A 3147?) way back in 1955/6. Perhaps you meant that you couldn't get
a licence until the age of 14 (which I did). I still don't seem to have
clocked up 50 years as an RSGB member though.
