Quite a few years ago (15?)  I got a Maplin lightweight headset; and 
just bought the Heil insert (I think that may have been what Geoff was 
alluding to , but I wasn't sure).

I managed to modify the microphone compartment to take the Heil insert.

There are 2 types; HC4 which if I remember is a more natural response, 
and HC5 which was more soppy (X-y!). I use the latter. The inserts were 
readily available; I assume they still are.

That was making a contest headset on a budget !  I probably out to 
stretch to a full Pro-set now !
