And to put things in perspective.

 If I were fortunate enough to own Steve's quite modest station, I 
reckon I'd have little difficulty in getting into the Eu top ten (CW) in 
CQWW ( well if I could stay awake anyway!) with a bare 400w, as indeed 
he himself does on SSB. Getting to number 1 ( or 2 or 3) would be more 
difficult, but paradoxically is NOT imo power limited, rather antenna 
and latitude limited. Antenna dBs are like birds in the hand, worth much 
more than dBs in the amplifier. Hey, how's that for a mixed metaphor ;-)

Let's not put too fine a point on it, anyone who wants to run 1500w in 
this country is already doing so, so lets let the sleeping dogs lie.
