Hi Don
I thought I'd email you with some thoughts which the HFCC (and VHFCC) may want to consider during your forthcoming meeting, as well as an update.
(In no specific order...)
What is the current situation regarding vanity or short contest calls being issued to individual amateurs?
Given the recent debate on the UK Contest Reflector about power levels, and that in the UK we are not aligned with the rest of Europe (in terms of level) would Ofcom consider a higher power level for specific World Wide or European contests? (For Domestic UK one's I don't see the point).
For the shorter HF and VHF contests, I would suggest at least a days gap between each contest, and perhaps co-ordination of the contest calendar (between VHF and HF). This would enable those who like both VHF and HF contests to take part.(Thereby increasing activity).
With regards to the Field Day contests. I would like to see the SSB Field Day rules brought in line with the DARC rules as I think they provide a greater opportunity for the less skilled or equipped to compete with stations in there class. (I think the Open section should remain as is, but a little more granularity / categories in the restricted section may be good). Like wise the VHF FD contest, although its quite good as is. I can't comment on the CW FD as I don't operate CW. I think the point about this is that there are many "shack in a box" operators, who can operate HF, VHF and UHF, FD style, but can't get the "team" of a club behind involved, and therefore currently no chance of winning or even a "medal spot".
I think the way DARC provide Certificates in the form of downloadable PDF files is the way forward.
Best Regards
