With tongue well any truely in cheek, my heart bleeds for all who had the
problems of aerials up in the stratosphere,
and also those complaining about problems with logging and keying
interfaces, like many highly competent CW ops
without recourse to towers, my aerial for 80M is less than 1/8 wave up in
the center and thats all I am allowed.
Re interfaces, I've never used SD for anything other than recording
contacts, no interface to rig at all, all my contacts
are via the paddle/bug/straight key (which depends upon the speed of the
person calling - perhaps some entrants might consider the old addage of
"answer the other station at his speed" I spent 15 mins up in the QRS
area at no more than 12 WPM which I felt was a civilised thing to do as the
contest is supposed to encourage new and improving CW ops. Even so I made
100 claimed Qs. As for comments like "just the FT1000MP and the dipole"
pray what else does one need in a contest with max power of 100W?
My last gripe was stations auto calling CQ straight over existing QSOs at
least 20 mins before the start of the contest - come on now, is this really
in the spirit of an event like our CC contests when many EU stations are
engaged in QSOs and we must really make them think UK amateurs as
Yobs/Chavs.
Please remember that such contests as the CC are supposed to be inclusive
and not like CQWW where its red in tooth and claw, you'll get more respect
if you raise the standard of your operating, not just "go go go and devil
take everyone else on the band".
Soapbox now returned to place under bench.
Thanks to all for organising the CC events, great turn-out last night,
hopefully this level of activity will continue throughout the CCs and the
Sprints.
See you in AFS,
