[UK-CONTEST] AFS experience

There's no real excuse Ian;

I used a keyboard only; and tried to slow down for people that were
obviously sending at a much slower speed... most programs allow ALT-V and
you type in the speed you want.
After the QSO, I would speed back up again..

I did fluff this up a few times, I have to admit !

Subject: [UK-CONTEST] AFS experience

Hi all,
Well I decided to have a go at the AFS and although I had a few
interruptions, I managed 64 contacts in probably 1.5 hours. This is the
first CW contest I have ever done and I found the decoder on the K3 to
be quite invaluable :)

It was fun though and considering I have only been dotting for about a month
(although passing my ticket in 1995) I felt quite elated. One thing
contests are really good for is getting your numbers up to speed :)
I did notice one or two stations only using computer keying though and they
were coming back like a train. I was sending about 16wpm and they were
double that. Despite asking for my number again a couple of times,
I cannot vouch for the accuracy of it, so not only did I slow them down but
they might not even get the QSO logged. What point is speed when the other
end cannot read it? What was that about accuracy trancends speed!

Whilst I understand that people use keyboards for ease and speed of logging,
it really should be possible to at least give the important stuff at the
speed of the person calling! I understand that is difficult with a keyboard
but at least one person using a keyboard came back to me on the key so
thankyou to them!

I look forward to the CC contests now :)
