I also encountered this, I take the view that if you've called QRL without
getting a response you should assume that the frequency is unoccupied. If
the previous occupant has left to work on another frequency he takes the
risk of losing his 'run' frequency, he can't have it both ways. Whether you
want to spend time fighting over the frequency is another matter (no doubt a
BIG signal helps here!)

When it comes to whose frequency it is after a QSO has been completed I
expect the station who 'owns' the frequency to immediately send QRZ after
the QSO has been completed.

I really struggled with some G stations who appeared to be hearing me OK but
were well down in the noise with me, it's a pity that we persist in sending
this meaningless 599 rubbish.
If we were to send proper reports as we did BC (Before Computers) the other
guy might know to send everything twice (what's the Q code for that) if
given a 449 report. I imagine with modern operation practice this might be
frowned upon.

I'd really like to know what equipment and other stations are using, this
information is always included in VHF contests and we include it in the logs
for HF contests but this information is never published.

Cu all next Saturday on SSB
