Chris, following on from your points...
Item 4 should then be:
There's now a 'fixed section' in the only VHF field day contest of the year,
the only contest aimed specifically at portable stations. Bonkers or what...

Subject: [UK-CONTEST] Some strange developments
Hello UK-contesters
Just when you thought these interesting threads had stopped....
I've been away from the UK for 8 months and there seem to have been some
strange developments in that time - here is my take on some of these
recently-discussed issues :
1. You can confirm QSO data via a chatroom .... hmmm ... I used ON4KST in
its early days on 6m and one of the conventions was that it was not used for
this purpose - it was intended as a discussion forum (in real time rather
than like an e-mail reflector) about all issues related to 50MHz and as far
as I remember that was the way it was used. Using a chatroom to solicit QSOs
or confirm QSO information seems like a 'prop' for poor stations or
operators to me....
2. New CQ WW Xtreme category ....hmmm.... we are finding it impossible to
convincingly police existing categories, so let's create a new category and
hope that the cheats migrate there. A cynical view, but perhaps not so far
from the truth ?
3. You can enter the contest but only if you don't call 'CQ' ....hmmm....
