More tales of wet string.
Any thoughts of a competitive entry were well and truly scuppered after only
75 minutes when an S9+ hash descended on 20m and stayed there all day. Made
the band practically useless with me although the noise reduction on the 756
ProIII helped to winkle out a few. The noise has gone today - most
frustrating! I guess it must have been very localised.
So with any chance of a decent score gone, 15m quiet and nothing to work on
10m (although I did hear a few Team UK members calling) it was then a matter
of seeing what was on the low bands.
40m was my band of the weekend and helped to make up for the disappointment
with afternoon/evening propagation to VK, ZL, VU, 9M6, 9V, ZS, VQ9 and 5X.
Made 141 QSOs (my best to date) split 36/58/32/15/0 in around 20 hours
(including breaks) but it should have been so much better. Raw score of 2865 is
150 down on last year as I missed so many bread and butter Qs/mults on 20m.
Energy ran out at around 06:00 - too many long hours at work these last few
weeks!
Hope others had better experiences.
