[UK-CONTEST] BERU moving bonuses

Largely agreed Clive.

Likewise, I personally would never dream of asking a DX station to QSY: but I think it's all a question of how busy the pileup is. Arguably it's not unreasonable to ask a DX station to QSY provided it isn't going hammer and tongs. But the requester has to accept it with a good grace if the DX station declines - and all did so in the case of BERU this year. Another sobering that had never occurred to me until this weekend is that the DX station has as duty to obey the principle of utilitatianism (a la Jeremy Bentham?) of the greatest good for the greatest number - and of course that's very much a judgement call!

Finallly, to put his into perspective quantitatively, I would estimate that we QSYd to other bands at request no more than a dozen times, and declined to do so (all early on as I recall) no more than 4 or 5 times.

Quin

Quin- and also a private replier- thanks, that IS cricket. I am a fairly
fierce competitor and neither give, nor ask for, any quarter in a
typical pile up. However there are some things I wouldn't do for an
edge, and one of them is asking a DX station to QSY in the face of an
existing huge pile up. The station in question could do this because he
could break any pile up at almost any time he chose so to do.

It is a sobering thought that the only person who cares where you are
placed in the final analysis is you yourself, so gaining an ultimate
edge may owe more to ego tripping than anything else. Isn't it nice
sometimes to take a stroll in the park!

In accordance with this principle, we declined requests to QSY to other bands early on when the going was thick and fast, but accdeded to them later on when the QSO rate had slowed down.
