I read this and its funny. 

But then I remembered that the RSGB said at one point they would put
together an "online repository of amateur radio information, which all UK
amateurs could contribute to"

Nothing seems to have been done about this, OT really, unless you add the
contesting section...

P.S. - I vote for keeping the reply to status as it is. If someone wants to
post to the list, it's 2 seconds to change, and it reduces the chances of
folks accidently posting sometimes embarassing or sensitive material to the
group rather than in a private reply. However - I won't lose any sleep about
it.
