All,
I hope I don't sound too pedantic but I have to repeat that there is no
longer a VHFCC only a RSGB Contest Committee covering all bands for Radio
"Sport".
However, I hope and I am confident that Don, G3XTT and his colleagues on the
Contest Committee are taking in the views being expressed in the discussions
on this reflector. They need our support in working out what is best for the
UK Amateur population for contesting. I, too, have been very critical of
them in the recent past but we need to be supportive of them so that they
will understand that the ideas being expressed are meant to be constructive
and sometimes appear destructive largely as a result of frustration.
Reg, G8VHI and I (Neil, G3RIR) have for some years been trying to get a VHF
Convention going again and we have succeeded in getting a two day stream of
VHF (and up) talks at the newly named RSGB Convention.
It is a start in the right direction which might reverse the trend of
lowering VHF activity and an attempt to ensure that more newcomers are aware
that there is more to amateur radio than a small radio and a simple aerial
and that repeaters and D-star are useful in special cases but there is a
whole world of exciting areas beyond them to explore but good results can
only be achieved by diligence.
