Thanks for your input to the discussion Steve and good to have worked you last Tuesday.
Just to clarify one point you made. 
There is no suggestion to remove the locator square as a multiplier basis.
The exchange of it is required anyway in order to compute the distances.
The suggestion is however that only UK squares would count.
The points per Kilometer value would still exist so if you worked PA2M you would receive 544 points, work me and you get 583 points plus the IO75 square and GS postal code multiplier. Under the current rules there would be only be a points value in working another station in IO75, with postal codes you can still get another mult by working ML, KA, PA etc :-) 
An operator is therefore free to decide what strategy they would want to run with. Fill your boots with lots of points and a few multipliers or go for as many mults as you can muster and still gets lots of points.
But that is the beauty of contesting.
When I consider the strategies and thought that goes into planning the attack on a HF contest and then look how predictive a UKAC event can be, it's been a long time requiring a review of what goal it is achieving.
