Hello to all, this is cross-posted, so my apologies.
I wonder if anyone can help? Apart from being a Ham and a tutor, I'm
also a Scout master. And in August, there is a big international Guide
and Scout camp in Windsor Great Park - It's WINGS 2009 (please see http://www.wings2009.org.uk
).
I am responsible for the Communications activities, that will include
an event station - mostly to encourage some of the 5000 participants
from all over the world (yes 5,000!), to look at Amateur Radio and to
introduce them to this great hobby of ours. This is both a great way
of promoting Amateur Radio in Scouting internationally and in the UK.
We have been awarded the special event callsign of GB4WINGS !!!
And will be QRV from 1st to 8th August, at various times, modes and
bands, but mostly during the UK day.
So why am I asking for help?
We have kit, but portable antenna's are proving a bit of a problem,
with that many young people (age 10+) around, we need masts that are
reasonably self standing and robust - trailer versa-towers etc. And
I'm afraid we are short of those. If you or a club you are associated
with have a portable mast we could borrow over this period (ideally
from the 31-July to 9-August) perhaps you would get in touch with me
off-list. Since this is in Windsor, availability in the South would be
best.
We're looking for HF (tri-band etc), 6M, 2M and 70cm, even Satellite.
How else you could help?
If you'd like to come and help, perhaps for just a day or even for
longer, staying over at the camp site in the staff area (we have a
bar :-), you would be most welcome, but to stay over, you'd need a CRB
check.
If you know of a reflector you think this should be sent to, please do
forward this on.
