That's right.  But the main reason one could sign nothing was because of the requirement to notify OfCom of the intended site of operation.  That effectively rendered it the 'normal' location as opposed to alternative or portable.

I let our club 1x1 call (M7W) lapse several years ago now, but it always generated a greater run rate than my plain old G4 prefix ever did/does.

  You have never had to sign /anything with a Special Contest Call.  They are a notice of variation to a normal club call similar to a special event call.

      Yes, that's correct, you no longer need to make notifications.
