I agree with all but your last paragraph David!
I'd just like to add a plea to those wanting to learn (or brush up on)
CW - don't go down the blind alley of using a Morse reader. That way
lies disaster. Morse is not just another datamode, it's much more than
that. Download G4FON's software and learn using the Koch method. That
way you don't get the plateau referred to by Colin, and you start off
knowing CW at a usable speed. Sorry Paul but I think a 5wpm test is no
use to anyone, and probably puts off more people than it encourages.
