Jim
I was interested in your antenna set up and I wonder if that was the
best choice for working inter EU
It was difficult this year to break through on 20 to many of the UK
islands due to the strong EU fixed competition but it might be that your
antennas were just too high. As the height increases from a cliff top
location EZNEC seems to show that the lobes break up into a series of
minor lobes and this effect might have reduced their effectiveness. Some
lobes are at very low angles of course but I guess you really needed a
good solid mid range lobe for maximum effectiveness.
Just a thought for you as I had wondered about the cliff top location I
had in J6 this year - mind you the vertical dipole worked well there as
almost every QSO was long haul and I needed the lowest angle lobes I
could get and I couldn't get down to the sea edge.
