Like I said the other day - if it aint broke - dont fix it....

What is wrong with the IOTA Contest exchange? Do we really want to
go to the state of the CQWW Contest where all you really have to copy is
the call-sign and the computer fills in the zone - providing you have
the latest database.......

If you dont have a serial number exchange (one unique factor) how else
can the adjudicator decide whether a contact is valid or not?

Contacts would be reduced to the ridiculous.....

"DL1ABC you are EU ten - GM7R (RST discretionary - and no serial number)

GM7R here is DL1ABC - eh you are - ummm OK over?

DL1ABC are you on an Island GM7R

Ehm - no Im not DL1ABC - OK thanks for the QSO GM7R QRZ"

So we need a structured exchange to make the contest meaningful -
otherwise it'd be a waste of time.

I can't for the life of me see how VHF Contesting is in anyway more
skillfull that HF Contesting. No matter the skill of the operator it
all comes down to kit and location...... whether on CW or SSB....

Recently I operated from Jersey during a special effort to work the USA
on 6m. In the end we made 152 QSOs with dirrerent US Calls.

Most went something like this.......

"GJ4FDM qrz dx USA

Kilo one zzzzzzzzzzz

Kilo one you are three by three one two three, one two three Kilo one
again OVER!

Roger roger Kilo one zzzzzzzz three over

Kilo one again my report again my report and your call GJ4FDM

GJ4FDM Kilo zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz three by three over

Kilo one I still need you call please again your call GJ4FDM over

roger roger this is Kilo one Alpha zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Kilo one Alpha etc etc etc you get the picture.......

Where is the skill - all you need is preseverence...... in CW most of
the calls were just above the noise.......

Now, I also operate 17m ssb and 30m CW where the pileups were
considerable and a lot of the time there were 5-6 stations calling at
any one time - now there is a bit of skill in winkeling out the calls......

So lets stop all the HF/VHF arguements - horses for courses - why the
heck did the HFCC and the VHFCC ever amalgamate in the first place.....
Keep the IOTA as it is - everybody who has so much hot air to
contribute should immediately offer their services to the Contest
Committee, for adjudication, organisation or in some way help, instead
of always being negative, sniping and continually trying to change
things to suit their own agendas......

Now, where did I put my asbestos suit?
