[UK-CONTEST] Antenna for SSB field day

Huzzah and hoorah! A simple reply to the totally innocently sent naïve
simple question!!! G4SJM will not be using a fan dipole for field day, I can
relax this weekend and a doublet and tuner is what I shall be setting up in
my top paddock this year for the club to use.

I am glad that the committee is looking at this matter. I have wobbled into
the contest arena totally unaware and completely disinterested in the
politics just to play my part in the matter of getting our club on the air
as I am "privileged" enough to have a few acres of land and a supportive
parish council to support me. Our club chairman has ALWAYS encouraged us to
take part in the contest with the 100% spirit in which it was meant, hence
the original question about the fan dipole. I can set up a big, fat linear
and a beam. I can optimise gain with the best but I want to do this
properly! If we have 2" of wire. a 9V battery and a lump of anthracite I
don't care, we'll have a crack at it!

To my virginal, naïve mind, the rules aren't that clear and need a bit of a
sharpen - I love the idea of the maximum wire length! What innovation will
be sparked from that!

Anyway, I have a couple of masts and a doublet to build this week so
goodnight all!

73, and look forward to you all collecting our special QSL card for SSB
Field Day!

Hello folks,

To clarify matters: the fan-dipole is not currently allowed
in the Restricted Section for either CW or SSB Field Days.
The Contest Committee will be looking at the question of
Field Day antennas and the rules relating to them during its
November meeting.

73,

Ed Taylor, GW3SQX
