I may be old-fashioned, or maybe just old, but it seems to
me that this a pointless exercise and that the general rules
need to be updated in this respect.

I expect to operate in the Overseas section of the 1.8 MHz
contest.  If I choose to add my County Code to the exchange,
for whatever reason, are UK entrants then expected to log
it?  If the answer is Yes, then maybe I'll be tempted to do
just that :-)
