Hi all
I have been pondering about which antenna's I should go for my operations in
Grenada this year. Last year I used simple dipoles 40/80m ones to be precise
and I had a YP3 for 20m, I used the 40m on 15 and 80m on 10m. All seemed to
work very well with good signal reports from VE and G. Despite this I know
that this year my operation is going to be slightly different as my hotel
room will be about 50foot higher and install about 100foot above sea level
and about 200 feet away from the sea.
Unfortunately verticals are not a practical solution so in an attempt to try
and improve my 40m ops (which was the best band all round during the BERU
last year) I am playing with the idea of a single 40m Delta loop, now I have
read various articles on the web and else where and all seem to have various
lengths and arguments about feed points etc., so I guess I'm looking for a
little self experience on here perhaps!
Has anyone operated in similar conditions with a Delta loop? I intend to
match the feed point with about 22' of RG6u (75 ohm) then an unknown
length of flexi low loss 50 ohm down to the rig. The centre of the loop
will be supported by the mast holding up 20m beam so the delta loop will be
in-between the beam and the roof and may have to be stretched slightly as I
wont have the height ( Mast may only stick up 12-15feet above the roof, so
is the angle of the apex of the triangle important/critical in anyway?
Your assistance would be much appreciated! I will of course want to work
into Africa, VU and VK/ZL given current conditions!
