Good idea Ed.
Could the problem of lack of UK participation be the time of year? I gess
quite a few participants could be away on family holidays. (quite a few
have signed SV5/Gxxxx, EA6/Mxxxx etc in past contests).
Also, when looking at UK stations in the contest I hope you included those
who activated, say, EU-006 in Ireland last year! (+ those involved with
multi-op stations from, say, GJ land).
Hope your initiative bears fruit.
