In response to Tom's point, I would say we noticed a considerale pile-up 
develop whenever we were spotted, especially when working runs to the USA.
Even after our Cluster link failed (failure of one of the radios after 
about 7 hours) we could easily tell when we had been "spotted" , and I 
confirmed this afterwards.

Of course it is nothing like the effect I note when spotted whilst using 
my DX call-signs - on occasion, especially when on a Band open to 
Europe,  the effect has been very negative - not being able to read 
anything thru' the wall of QRM!
