Scott, whilst not trying to defend the contest committees action against you, I do tend to agree that they should perhaps have communicated their decision to you prior to publishing the result. What I fail to see in the results page on the HFCC web-site is any mention of any deductions and the only mention in the reflector was from the contest committee chairman who, whilst stating that points were deducted, does not specifcally mention the stations involved; so who was it who identified you station call?

You seem to be suggesting that you would not knowingly resort to or condone self-spotting. However until tonight I did not realise that you also hold MM0LID and therefore decided to search on DX Summit using this call. This revealed some interesting spots outside of SSB FD where MM3AWA has created several spots for MM0LID in a number of contests, including a couple during CQWW. There is one made during the Saturday morning before SSB FD where MM0LID is spotted by someone using your SSB FD call (MM0AOQ).

There are a number of posts where MM0LID appears to be self-spotting including one just before the end of SSB FD which was presumably to attract other contest stations onto 14.220MHz.

The post from W7SWL claiming you were 59+ in NV is, according to QRZ, based in Tucson AZ.

The list also includes posts from four GM4 calls which I cannot authenticate, they certainly do not appear on QRZ nor are they on a list of calls where station details have been withheld. I publish the information extracted from DX summit below:

I trust the other stations that featured strongly on DX Summit with apparent self-spotting/cheerleading during SSB FD will have equally been penalised, although I suspect they are e keeping their heads down and not trying to defend what occurred for digging a deeper hole. At least one of the G stations involved has not only spotted by the club members and some of its officers of the club during SSB FD but this practice has also been doing noticed during other contests including the 80m Club Championships.

I would urge the contest committee to seriously review all contest rules with regards to self-spotting / cheerleading and to clearly define the punishment for any future breach.

John
