Subject: [UK-CONTEST] Club Calls
Paul,
I would prefer to go with the option of short, unique, codes for each
Club for the reason that club names vary greatly in length, and it would
be much fairer if all had to send an identifier of similar length. I
noticed last night that some could get their (well known) Club name
across very quickly, whilst others, in perhaps less familiar locations,
were having to spell phonetically on almost every QSO, greatly
increasing the QSO time.
Abbreviations wouldn't work as there are many clubs with the same.
However, it is up to the serious entrants of the event to indicate their
preferences, I was only on to give a few points away as my Society were
not participating. I only entered the conversation to confirm that N1MM
accepted the full names.
I have just noticed that the Club I represent in Contests is not in the
list, despite being very active in other RSGB Club events, and another
local Club with the same initials is also omitted!
Another point I noted last night was that a few stations were very much
stronger than the majority - do all remember to turn the power down in
that sector of Top Band? Perhaps the Rules should have a reminder of our
licensed power in bold print!
Anyway, let's rejoice in the fact that this seemed to be a RADIO contest
- I noticed only a couple of Cluster Spots for participating Clubs!
73 Dave
