With a dry evening the ambient noise level from the 400kV Super Grid lines about a mile away was lower than normal, although still about s5-6 so
weaker signals were difficult to copy and some guessing on my part will probably result in a higher points loss than I would have liked! I hadn't got
round to putting any rx antennas out either.
The first hour was really buzzing with 92 Qs in the log, almost half my total. N1MM performed extremely well in ESM mode and the K3 handled the high
content of very strong signals perfectly. At least 7 UK stations were consistently 60dB over s9 and yet no AGC pumping or IMD products discernible at
all. I could get very close to the cleaner signals and still work the weaker stuff. G3BJ's FT5K sounded very clean but some of the other front runners
left a lot to be desired.
Pleased to hear a reduction in the number speeder-uperers. Only one noted this time. It's one of those modern diseases, a bit a kin to someone
wondering round a supermarket with an empty trolley but having a loud conversation on their cell phone, so not really adding any value to the original
mission!
I had expected more wide spread activity just a week before CQWW CW but was disappointed to see a lot of Eu countries missing - 9A, EA (worked EA8),
ER, GD, GI, GJ, GU, I, LZ, OH, SV, YL, YO, YU.
My dipole at 57ft just isn't competitive these days resulting in 186 Qs, 26 DXCC, 53 PC for 938 points. Good fun though!!
