Unable to get on for RTTY and SSB this year so I felt the need to do a bit
of CW. Having extended the squished and squashed doublet at one end for Club
Calls, 160m was the obvious band to try. So I decided to do a very low key
entry just to see what I could hear and hopefully get a few in the log. So
the long end was duly walked into the neighbouring field, crunching through
the snow around 150 feet. Unfortunately the only wire I had was heavy
duty multi-strand so much of it sagged close to or even on the snowy ground.
Not the ideal scenario for DX chasing but probably provided some welcome
heating for the dormant crops!
In the end it was the story of inability to bust the pile-ups. Worked 209 Qs
in 44 DXCCs but a disappointing 6 zones. Best DX to the east was EY8MM
(already in LOTW :-) although it will be his very high antennas that did the
job. VY2ZM provided his usual guaranteed QSO for Z5 but other USA/Canada
avoided the log. Many other DXCCs and a few more zones were called for long
periods but just not enough ooommmppphhh to break the constant pile-ups
otherwise it could have been the magic 50 DXCCs. Still a few new ones went
in the log and every little helps!
Thanks for all the QSOs. Log submitted; LOTW and e-qsl duly populated.
