Thank you for your reasoned and reasonable post. I too believe that this reflector should be about advice and encouragement.

Perhaps in future people could specify to whom their replies are addressed? When part of a post I make is quoted, I have a tendency to (reasonably?) assume that it is that specific post that is being commented on, which seems reasonable.

I have the greatest respect for those on this list who take part very successfully in the big events. Gerry, Mark, yourself and many others may only be callsigns I work in passing (though I have met some of you) but I am aware of many of your collective achievements and of those we should all as UK Amateurs be very proud.

I simply get frustrated that so many suggestions on this list, many of which are good, positive ideas, get shouted down unreasonably with poor arguments, instead of being considered with more respect.

The main point I was/am trying to make is that Gordon's point could be addressed more positively by the introduction in many contests of more appropriate sections.
