There's a further aspect to this that is unusual, if not unique, to
radio contests. In other fields of competition entrants can largely
choose their own tactics, unaffected by the fact that others of higher
and lower capability are there too. That's not the case with radio - the
bandspace is taken up by the biggest with many kW into big aerials and
the smaller station doesn't have the same freedom of choice, e.g.,
whether to call or hunt.
