[UK-CONTEST] Guest Operating

Very well said Paul.
And while I'm the first to promote the support of young contesters, I
can also congratulate Paul for having opened his station to many as his
note suggests - even this old f at rt. And as a contester of almost 40
years standing currently without a home station, his support was vital!
And I learned a lot from operating alongside the 'new guns' - that's the
attraction for me, you never stop learning in this wonderful hobby and
never stop meeting great people.
As Dave G4BUO knows, I had a pretty modest tribander and wires station
in W6, but had as much fun from there as from the many guest operations.
I heartily support the need for a stronger guest op culture here in the
UK. It's no accident that NCCC consistently tops the worldwide contest
charts in many classes - guest op is a way of life for many in the noisy
overcrowded deed-restricted San Francisco Bay Area. So why not here!

Ooops, I may have go on my hobby horse, but if this plea opens up even
one more UK QTH for guest ops, it will be worth it. Action not gripes
please!

I don't get why any one has a problem with so called "commercial
sponsorship". It should be looked on as a feather in the amateurs cap
that our hobby is deemed important enough for a manufacturer to even
bother, surely they have bigger fish to fry than us.
My sponsor Icom support our hobby 100 % and we should be glad of it.
IOTA, DX- peditions UK Contest University, RSGB Convention to name a
few.
Any amateur that calls for a certain brand to be boycotted because of
the support they give in my view is churlish and very mean spirited
indeed.

Icom are at least giving some thing back to the contesting and amateur
radio community, the IC7700's that are here are FREE to use for ANYONE
who shows an interest in contesting, this is why Icom are happy to
supply them. They are particularly happy to support young up and
coming operators and so am I.

My personal financial and time investment at G6PZ is considerable but
I am happy to share this with YOU the contesting community for all
you have to do is mail me and then turn up.

I have read some very negative comments tempered with some very
positive ones. Every one is entitled to their opinion but an attack on
my station is a little below the belt when all I'm trying to do is
share my life's success and put some thing back into a hobby that I
love.
