I agree with Dave. The rest of the bands, other than 160m also suffer. 
I'm as keen on contests as the next man but the recent ARRL DX CW test 
saw 20m carved up out of all proportion with contest QSOs going on right 
up to 14.150MHz! While I had a few hours myself in the test, I also had 
a Sunday lunchtime SSB sked with a VK on 14.118 (with 14.125 as an 
alternative if QRM lower). It was impossible to get through to him on 
either frequency.

The same can be said of CQWW SSB when the 40m band can be covered with 
SSB contest signals right down to 7.010.

Part of the challenge of contests should be to operate within defined 
freq limits, like we have for RSGB 80m CC, and there should be penalties 
for operating out of those limits.

We do not help our cause by interfering with other band users in this 
way. In fact, many of us reading this reflector do not spend all of our 
air time doing contests or chasing new entities .. some of us even dare 
to have conversations with the people we contact :-)
