[UK-CONTEST] Vertical Dipoles (near the sea)

Last year on holiday on the island of Menorca we were staying in an 
apartment which was about 50 ft from the edge of a low cliff with a 
clear view out to sea to the NW. Using a (lash -up)12ft vertical with a 
couple of radials laying on the ground  fed from the '706 via a tuner.
I made many QSO's with stations in the USA (including several W6's) 
mainly on 17m as well as few on 15m.
I was only able to use SSB as I'd forgotten an adapter which meant that 
I couldn't plug the paddle in & I can't key using the up-down buttons on 
the mike.
It convinced me of the effectiveness of a good sea take off, being 
closer to the sea would probably have been even better.
