When working near the MUF the number of different ray paths is
considerably reduced over that of using bands well below the MUF
(Maximum Usable Frequency)
The more ray paths available then the probability of a problem with
propagation induced phase changes causing an error increases
substantially. QED 20m especially with low solar flux is going to be a
very good bet for PSK. While 80m in the evening is not a very good idea.
I remember QSOing in the very early days of PSK31 with Peter Martinez,
G3PLX, on 80m and finding that propagation often totally destroyed
communication but 45.45 baud RTTY was still OK.
