(But bring back tents and hand dug holes for calls of nature, I say!)
Hi Don
I agree with your sentiments entirely. We have something of an anomaly at our NFD station where our elders bestow on us how it used to be then complain that the site is not good enough for a station to improve on previous scores due to its geographical location and features, but when a move to a more radio suitable site is suggested, refuse to operate elsewhere because the home comforts are not available elsewhere???
I also enjoy listening to how it used to be in the old days, and how I have it easy now with all the facilities available.
I would like to remind one or two people that after 15 years in the Infantry many as a radio operator with back pack radios, bits of wire slung between trees, hand generators etc operating at NFD is easy peasy no matter what facilities are available.
Winning however is another matter and is not in any way dependant on facilities available for nature calls cups of tea or sleeping at home it is however dependant on Location, Operators, Location, antennas, Location, Equipment, Location etc.
