Hi All,
Last minute decision [Friday afternoon] to enter from the front garden
using my caravan on the side drive as a shack with a temporary long wire
aerial, ground stake and lots of radials Aerial was only 85' long and
at 10m one end down to 5M at the other end strung across the front lawn.
Single op. 10W QRP FT-450D on GelCell Battery and manual ATU, Paper log
and rig keyer. no computer, RBN or Skimmer.
I fell whilst fixing the aerial and hurt my hand, so sri for the QSD. It
hurt like h*** for most of the contest.
I knew I was going to be weak so S&P throughout. The surbuban noise
levels were pretty bad, with a lot of PLT intermod type QRM on 40M in
the evening. Weather held off and it was dry and warm using the van gas
heater. I had finished by 11am on Sunday so missed the rain.
148 QSOs for 608pts claimed score in Low Power Section. Best DX USA
and Asiatic Russia.
B: 160M 80M 40M 20M 15M 10M
Q: 20 35 13 66 12 2
P: 156 132 50 211 43 16
I would not like to see external assistance devices like RBN and Skimmer
permitted in the Restricted and Low power sections. I would not ban
their use in the Open Section.
I would also like to make more of the purpose of NFD being for
demonstrating our capabilities for emergency communications without
using infrastructure.
This can be achieved by stimulating and rewarding stations that use
innovative and self sufficient methods of powering their station on
Field Day.
Already looking for a rural site 2012!
